Set among the dense bushland of Upper Brookfield in Brisbane's leafy western fringe, Carbine House is a family residence that draws quiet inspiration from the traditional country homestead. The design leans into restraint and comfort, shaping rooms that feel calm, useful, and unhurried.
Materials were selected for how they would weather over time. Timber, stone, and other natural finishes are intended to soften and deepen as the years pass, gradually settling into the landscape rather than standing apart from it. The block itself posed a real test — a steeply sloping site that demanded an inventive response. The answer was to lift the sleeping quarters into the treetops, suspending the bedroom wing among the upper branches so that waking up feels closer to camping in the canopy than retreating indoors. Each bedroom opens onto a sweep of green.
